Pillar Copings for Superior Pillar Protection

Pillar copings are precast concrete caps placed on top of pillar or gate pillars. They serve both functional and aesthetic purposes, protecting the masonry from weather damage while providing a decorative finish to entrance features.

The coping sits directly on top of the pillar, slightly overhanging the edges to shed water away from the pillar face. The sloped or pyramid shape prevents water from pooling, while the dense concrete construction provides a durable, long-lasting finish.

At Majorcon Precast, our pillar copings are engineered to protect pillars from rain damage while enhancing their appearance and durability. Build with confidence. Build with Majorcon Precast.

Why Choose Our Pillar Copings

Frequently Asked Questions

Pillar copings add the finishing touch to entrance features. Here are answers to the questions we receive from homeowners, architects, and builders.

Correct sizing is essential for proper protection and appearance:

Pillar SizeRecommended Coping SizeOverhang
225x225mm300x300mm37.5mm each side
300x300mm375x375mm or 400x400mm37.5-50mm each side
350x350mm450x450mm50mm each side
400x400mm500x500mm50mm each side
450x450mm550x550mm or 600x600mm50-75mm each side

Rule of thumb: Coping should be 50-100mm wider than pillar in both directions, providing 25-50mm overhang on each side.

The drip groove is a channel molded into the underside of the coping:

  • Purpose: Breaks surface tension of water running along the underside

  • Function: Causes water to drip off rather than travel back to pillar face

  • Benefit: Prevents water staining and moisture damage to pillar masonry

  • Importance: Critical for long-term pillar protection

All our pillar copings include an integral drip groove around the entire perimeter.
